Agents of Change
We encourage our children to ask questions, challenge ideas, and, importantly, become agents of change. This ethos is embedded in our school vision and inspires our worship, teaching, and learning.
Classes often take on projects based on concerns raised during topic lessons or sparked by the children's own interests. These projects have ranged from organising a bake sale to raise money for Macmillan, to holding a sponsored event in support of the WWF, to writing to our local MP about plastic pollution. That particular letter even led to a visit from the MP and a discussion about ways to improve recycling in our school.
To support and drive improvements within the school and the wider community, we elect and nominate children to take on a variety of leadership roles and responsibilities.
The Role of the School Council
Each year, one boy and one girl, from each class, is elected by their classmates to reproesent them on the Council. This gives pupils a voice in the running of the school.
Meetings are held regularly to discuss things that are going well, possible concerns and ways to improve our school for everyone via the school suggestion box.
In the past, we have helped in the choices of playground equipment, the refurbishment of the toilets, supporting a reductionto the speed limit as part of the wider travel plan. School council have also interviewed for a new Incumbent at St Peter and Paul Church.
We organise many events during the year, such as our very popular and eagerly anticipated Borden’s Got Talent Competition, and charitable events such as Jeans for Genes, Red Nose Day, Remembrance Day and Children in Need.
As home building increases in our local area, we're turning our attention to protecting what makes our community special. One such place is the Borden Playstool Nature Reserve — a cherished green space that offers a haven for wildlife and a peaceful retreat for residents.
To support the preservation of this important natural area, our School Council is taking action. They are writing letters of support to local authorities and stakeholders, advocating for the protection of the nature reserve for future generations.
